Description
Dance 4 Life Foundations Courses are designed to build up your fundamental dance technique. You'll learn important principles that will help you master the primary turn patterns in the dance styles covered in that course.
The course features a combination of private instruction and group-based learning. The group classes provide the framework for your learning throughout the term, and gives you the opportunity to learn, practice and mingle with fellow students. Under the guidance of your instructor(s), you will learn as a group in a fun and relaxed environment.
The first group class will cover "Foundations" and it's where you'll learn and solidify the dance's fundamental concepts and principles. Foundations will solidify the basic steps of the dance, whilst developing your posture, balance and coordination. The second group class is titled "Improvers" and will allow you to explore your creativity as you reinforce your fundamentals by creatively linking up basic step patterns.
During the private one-on-one lessons, our experienced D4L instructors will provide you with personalized attention to develop your own individual skills. You will reinforce material learnt from the group classes to help build confidence in your dancing.
The social dance parties provide an opportunity for you to really get your body moving and put your dancing into practice. Experience all the different flavours of Latin dance and music as we play music from all the different styles. Meet and mingle with other D4L students whilst watching and participating in dance performances and Jack & Jill contests!

Course Progression
Dance 4 Life courses are designed to be ongoing programs that allow you to continue straight on to the next term. The general time spent in the Foundations level is 3-6 terms, but don't worry, each term will cover alternate patterns in the Improvers group class. It will take a number of cycles before you cover all the step patterns to build your foundation. Each student's progress can vary depending on their previous dance experience or other activities where body awareness and mechanics is necessary. Our focus in Foundations is to to develop a good amount of balance, posture and body connection, so that when you are progressed to the next level, you are ready to tackle those trickier patterns.
The fun is in the foundations! Your D4L instructors will constantly be coaching and giving you feedback to ensure you're progressing. You will be notified by a D4L head instructor when you are ready to move up. Prior to progressing to the next level, there will be opportunities for you to participate in other types of courses, such as performance and medal courses.

Enrolling in Multiple Courses
If you want to learn multiple styles of dance, it is possible to enrol in multiple courses. By doing so, you will be exposed to different methods of using the same core dance principles, but in another dance style. This could potentially fast track your overall progression through the levels, whilst learning multiple dance styles!

Etiquette
At Dance 4 Life, we understand that dancing and learning is a very personal thing, and everybody learns and develops differently. We never want any of our students to feel like they are being rushed or overwhelmed with dance feedback. As such, it is etiquette at Dance 4 Life to refrain from providing too much feedback to fellow students.
During group classes and socials, every dancer is well aware of their current stage of dancing and the techniques they need to work on for that class. Listen to as much information as your D4L instructors give you, as they will focus on what's important for you as a class, and individually.
Please read the Dance 4 Life group class etiquette.

Concerns
If you ever have any concerns with any of the D4L staff or students, please feel free to speak to one of our D4L head instructors about it. If you are more comfortable with a certain D4L instructor, please feel free to discuss the situation with them first, and they can relay your concerns to us.
Feedback
At the end of every term, we want to get your feedback! We want to hear about what you enjoyed during our courses and what you didn't. Let us know what you think we're doing well, or could be better. It allows us to continue to make adjustments and improvements to our courses.
We Also Recommend
If courses aren't quite right for you, then we suggest looking into a Personalised Program. These programs are designed to cater to your pace and style of learning, plus focus only on as many or as little dances as you prefer.
