Our Membership Program

DANCE 4 LIFE MEMBERSHIP PROGRAM

Summary

The Dance 4 Life Membership Program is designed to regularly progress your dancing via small group-based learning!

Description

Our Group classes encompass the Dance 4 Life philosophy and the art of social dancing. We believe social dancing is more than just remembering one long sequence of step patterns that you learnt in class. Great social dancing is about two people connecting, and engaging in communication through only body movement and dance. This is true no matter what the dance style. We strive to give you a better awareness of yourself and your own body, then connect this to different partners and the music.
  • Explore different dance patterns in more detail to better understand lead/follow, how to breakdown steps patterns and add more variation to your social dancing.
  • We'll cover the intricacies of great social dancing such as timing, musicality, technique, frame, posture, body awareness, weight placement, connection and much more.
  • Ongoing classes allow us to work with every student to develop their dancing over the course of weeks and months.
  • You'll get additional membership benefits to ensure you can continue to practice your dancing!

Class Structure

Dance 4 Life lays out it's class structure over recurring 8-week blocks. Each block is designed to focus on a specific overarching theme or concept. New sequences and patterns are learned, and then revised the following week, with more technical detail being given in regards to leading, following and improving your social dance technique. Over time, you'll also learn various entries and exits into similar patterns. We allow plenty of time to practice the patterns with other students. At the end of each 8-week block, we revise all the material from the past block in preparation for the end-of-block social dance party! The content of each 8-week block will change and be specifically designed for the students currently enrolled in the classes.

Classes Available

Please see our timetable for the most up-to-date list of ongoing classes.

Suggested Class Enrolment

If you are new, we recommend starting with our Basic Membership, which includes access to all Beginner level classes. All beginner level classes have a cyclical 8-week syllabus. Upon completing any Beginner level, you can decide which higher-level dance classes you'd like to enrol into, then adjust your membership from there. The Basic Membership includes 1 higher-level group class.

We recommend students enrol into at least 2 higher-level classes with a Standard Membership. We recommend either doing 1 dance class in 2 different levels (e.g. Foundation & Improver) or 2 different dance classes (e.g. Latin Foundation and Street Latin Foundation). Both combinations can help you progress faster as a dancer, whether focusing on a specific style, or becoming more aware of different ways of movement through multiple styles.

Group Class Sizes

Regular group class sizes will range from 4 to 24 people.

Instructors

Each course is taught by one or two of our friendly D4L instructors.

Dance Goals

Before you join our classes, we'll discuss what goals you want to achieve from your dancing. This can be as simple as "just to have fun", or something like, "to become a great leader that followers will want to dance with". Dancing is different for everybody, so it's important we understand what you want from your dancing so that we can guide you according to your own goals. Your goals can also change, grow or develop with time, so we will constantly check in with you to re-assess your goals.

Level Progression

Dance 4 Life members' classes are designed to develop your dancing on a progressive basis. Each class will cover step patterns whilst still working on the underlying fundamentals and principles related to that level of dance. An amount of balance, posture and body connection will be developed before you are progressed to the next level.

Students are invited to do a Progress Check session once every block, where our Dance 4 Life head instructors can assess your dancing and give you personalised feedback. We can further discuss your goals and areas for you to work on before you level up. Progress Checks are not compulsory, although we highly recommend them to keep track of your progress in relation to your goals.

Levels

After the Beginner Level, we currently divide our member classes into the 3 levels of Foundations, Improvers and Experienced. Students should be able to master and demonstrate numerous fundamental dance concepts before progression or entry into the higher levels. This is to maintain quality of the higher level classes to ensure there is no unnecessary repetition of lower level concepts.

As such, even new members with previous experience may be required to start in the Foundations/Improvers levels to ensure that they are up-to-date on our syllabus and techniques. Members will be notified when they are ready to progress levels, however students can request a progress check if they would like an assessment of their current level within the Dance 4 Life syllabus.
